Systems Assessment Crucial With The Announcement Of A Retirement

Client: Small Rural County Municipality
Requirement: Project Support – Information Systems Assessment

Business Situation

Since its inception in 1985, the client’s Department of Information & Technology Services (ITS) had been led by their IT Director. This individual had announced his planned retirement several months ago. The IT Director had been an integral part of building and maintaining the County‘s many information systems, communications technology and a myriad of other key technologies vital to the County’s operations and services delivery. The current state of these technologies, while stable, had not been documented, and much of the associated “know-how” was accessible solely to the IT Director. On the basis of the client’s recently published “State of the County for 2015,” information technology was to continue to be a key enabler for not only existing services and programs, but for many planned to be launched within the year. The client was in the process of recruiting a new IT Director to whom the Department would be effectively transitioned and was in need of a systems assessment to help identify candidates and assist in the transition.

ProNexus Solution

ProNexus was engaged by the client to complete a systems assessment to help specify the optimal attributes of IT Director candidates, as well as provide key, high-level documentation to assist in the transition. ProNexus took a holistic view of the client’s systems, recognizing that a “system” is more than just computer hardware and software, it is only as strong as the weakest link of the People, Process and Technology components.

Through the use of surveys and interviews, our efficient assessment approach made effective use of the client’s time, and combined with our industry, business and technology expertise, it provided insight to significant weaknesses requiring their consideration. The assessment focused on the current state IT landscape and specifically summarized those experiences, skills and professional attributes that would be of greatest value to the County as they sought candidates to fill the soon-to-be vacated position.
