What is a retained search?

A retained search is a professional service whereby a company pays a fee to the professional search firm while it manages the entire recruiting process to fill the open position.

What kind of companies would benefit from a retained search?

The simple answer is all companies looking to hire top talent or struggling to fill an open role. It is a candidate-driven market and we have the tools to help you put together a competitive offer.

What is the fee for retained search?

The retained search fee is typically a percentage of the first-year base salary or an agreed upon fixed dollar amount. A portion of the fee is paid upon signing the search contract, a second payment is due while the search for candidates is being conducted, and a final payment is due once the candidate starts their new position with our client.

Why consider a retained search versus a contingent search?

The retained search firm works in complete partnership with the client to seek out the best group of candidates to be considered.

A contingency firm offers a service with no payment upfront and will often be working on multiple searches at once – prioritizing ones that can be executed quickly to ensure payments for their search. This is a less refined process with a large volume of potential candidates which increases the client risk of making a costly hiring mistake and losing productivity.
